BACKSTAGE: A SPACE FOR TOMORROW

A six-storey building for creativity, education and community

We want anyone to be able to experience, make, and benefit from, theatre. Anyone from anywhere. We know the difference theatre can make. First-hand. Because it’s done it for us too. It’s what has driven us to embark on this project and create groundbreaking cultural, employability and educational programmes for our local community, schools and creative practitioners.

With your help, we can build spaces for people to come together

Your support will help us:

  • Truly embed our work in the local community, contributing to the public realm in two of London’s most deprived but thriving boroughs
  • To reach young people, early-career artists and those interested in the arts to support their employment prospects and life chances through a new Clore Learning Centre, Playtext Library and purpose-built studio space
  • Double the number of education, community and artist development participants we work with each year through the Backstage building
  • Allow emerging artists from all backgrounds to network, share stories and present work in a purpose-built studio space and Writers’ Room
  • Make the stage and back-of-house areas accessible for the first time in over 200 years for visitors, staff, casts and creative teams
  • Provide a new neighbourhood hub with a cafe-workspace, meeting place for get-togethers, creative conversations or learning and reflection
