2023-24 marked the sixth year of Take the Lead, our flagship employability programme for years 11–13. We worked with 32 schools and 40 groups in workshops that explored five core employability skills (communication, self-management, self-belief, teamwork and problem solving), utilising drama techniques and facilitated discussion to give participants a practical toolkit to develop these skills and apply them to their own experiences.

Take the Lead alumni have used the skills they’ve gained from the programme to support their journeys into higher education or employment across a range of industries. Some participants from this year’s programme shared their thoughts on Take the Lead and how the programme has helped them with their careers.
Participating teachers also received professional development training on supporting their students with their next steps. They gave us their thoughts on the programme
This year, participants also attended the Royal Bank of Canada’s European headquarters in London for the final workshops. With Old Vic facilitators, RBC employees, and staff volunteers from our funders, the participants took part in mock interviews and were given the chance to celebrate their achievements and new skills.
None of this would be possible without the continued support of our Principal Partner, Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), and our funders CVC Foundation, Allan & Nesta Ferguson Charitable Settlement, John Lyon’s Charity and The HW Sanderson Art in Industry Fund and Sandra Charitable Trust.
