1.4 million older people in the UK will experience loneliness this winter. We believe in the power of theatre to bring people together, which is why we created Matinee Idols.
Life would be a little lonelier without it
Through subsidised £5 tickets, we’ve brought together over 400 over 50s to share the magic of theatre – with Christmas lunches, unique pre-show workshops (including beat boxing) and our annual intergenerational choir which teams up with primary schools in Lambeth and Southwark.
We have to fundraise to make sure projects like Matinee Idols can continue, so anything you’re able to give this Giving Tuesday will go a long way.
It’s a joyous occasion to meet new people, enjoy the arts and learn new things. I feel that there is good in the world and hope for the future after I have attended
- A gift of £50 could subsidise a ticket for one Matinee Idol to see a production at The Old Vic
- A gift of £135 could pay for a musician to lead a rehearsal for our intergenerational choir bringing primary schools and people aged 50+ together
- A gift of £250 could supply the hot lunch and refreshments for our Matinee Idols at one workshop for 75 people
- A gift of £1,500 could pay for six freelance creatives to design and deliver workshops for the programme for a year
