Welcome to our Introduction to Lighting Design workshop. Over the course of this workshop, you will explore the creative process of a lighting designer and experiment with lighting a scene.

This workshop is broken down into sections so you can complete it in your own time and at your own pace. If you get stuck and need any assistance you can contact us at education@oldvictheatre.com.

Before you begin, you will need to gather a few resources to take part in this workshop. You will need:

• A torch, desk lamp, or mobile phone torch.
• A pen and paper to make notes.
• An extract from a play that you would like to create a lighting design for.
• A volunteer to practise lighting, or an object you would like to light.
• Quality Street sweet wrappers or other see-through wrappers.
• Cardboard.
• Scissors.

Remember, this workshop isn’t about getting things right – it’s about your artistic ideas. Good luck, and have fun.
